The Artist | 12 Jungian Archetypes Self-Portrait Series

The 12 Archetypes of personality, chosen by Carl Jung, are the foundations for characters in movies, literature, art, and the life where we live and breathe. They represent behavior patterns, cultural symbols, and images of the collective unconscious. In this series, I am exploring all 12 of the archetypes through self-portraits and embodying each as I understand them within myself. I think the more time we spend with ourselves, the more we realize how multi-dimensional we are. This has been an incredible experiment for me as I have come to understand which archetypes I align with the most and which were difficult for me to “become”. Along with the portraits, I have included a playlist that represents each personality. I hope you enjoy this playful exploration!

The Artist or the Creator loves to transform something to make it into something completely new. They value freedom and are incredibly imaginative. Sometimes they can spend more time dwelling in their heads rather than actually doing. I typically embody this archetype through and through. I find my perfectionism for my creations often holds me back and that is even apparent in the fact that I could decide how to photograph this archetype. I feel overwhelmed by the amount of possibility and therefore become paralyzed by all of my ideas. Often, I struggle with feeling like my life’s mission is to create in any way that I can and I can’t imagine spending a day without creativity, but I wrestle with feeling like I should be doing something more “productive” for the rest of the world. I think many artists feel this way because they have a hard time seeing the greater impact of their creations. Art in itself can be a tool for healing and motivating. And if we are successful as artists than we have an opportunity to help others in a way that gives us purpose.
