The Everywoman | 12 Jungian Archetypes Self-Portrait Series

The 12 Archetypes of personality, chosen by Carl Jung, are the foundations for characters in movies, literature, art, and the life where we live and breathe. They represent behavior patterns, cultural symbols, and images of the collective unconscious. In this series, I am exploring all 12 of the archetypes through self-portraits and embodying each as I understand them within myself. I think the more time we spend with ourselves, the more we realize how multi-dimensional we are. This has been an incredible experiment for me as I have come to understand which archetypes I align with the most and which were difficult for me to “become”. Along with the portraits, I have included a playlist that represents each personality. I hope you enjoy this playful exploration!

The Everywoman, or as I like to call it The Basic Bitch, is the person who wants to fit in with the crowd. They want to belong and blend in. This archetype makes me think of being in middle school and observing everyone dressing alike in order to be liked. I think this particular personality is prevalent in our current Western culture. In my opinion, the “influencers” or the wannabe “influencers” are attempting to connect with others by mimicking the same actions as each other, yet it is all under the guise of trying to stand out and be unique.

Another example of this would be someone who says they are non-conformist, yet their group of friends all dress the same and look alike in attempts to connect with each other. I took my inspiration from social media and acted the part of the girl taking a selfie in order to get lots of “likes” and be considered for the “it” crowd. At many points in our lives, we all want to be the Everywoman or the Everyman because after all we are biologically programmed to want to be liked.

  • Motto:

All men and women are created equal

    To belong

  • Greatest fear:

To be left out or to stand out from the crowd

Develop ordinary solid virtues, be down to earth, the common touch

  • Weakness:

Losing one’s own self in an effort to blend in or for the sake of superficial relationships

  • Talent:

    Realism, empathy, lack of pretense

  • The Everyman is also known as: The good old boy, regular guy/girl, the person next door, the realist, the working stiff, the solid citizen, the good neighbor, the silent majority.
